NDIS Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiology is all about using movement and exercise to improve your physical and mental capabilities. This can in turn increase independence, and enable you to perform activities of daily living, or recreational pursuits they were previously not able to do.

Our exercise physiologists are University-qualified and accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). They are trained to work with clients who are at risk of, or already have chronic health conditions and use evidence-based exercise interventions to ensure exercise programs are both safe and effective for an individual.

Exercise Physiology can benefit a person with a psychosocial disability in many ways, including:

Mental health benefits

  • Decreased symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and schizophrenia
  • Decreased social isolation
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Increased engagement with treatment and service utilisation
  • Increased self-esteem
  • Improved quality of life

Physical benefits

  • Improved balance, posture, coordination
  • Improved physical strength, fitness and ability to perform tasks
  • Improved metabolic profile i.e. lower cholesterol, improved blood pressure, reduced body fat, better blood glucose control

At Heads Up, we offer both individual and small group exercise therapy sessions.
